ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT 

The department of Information Communication Technology has been mandated to effectively conceive, develop, implement, utilize and manage appropriate technological solutions in order to provide quality services to Meru Technical Training Institute (The Meru Polytechnic) in line with the vision, mission, core values and objectives of the Institute besides offering teaching and learning services.

Objectives:

1. To offer diversified curriculum in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

2. To train end-users on computer literacy and offer end-user support.

3. To offer technical advice and consultancy on acquisition of ICT resources.

4. Planning, implementation and development of ICT infrastructure in the Institute.

The Department has been posting good results in National Exams. The departmental ICT infrastructure is in an excellent state with 3 equipped computer Laboratories installed with branded new HP/Dell computers, Digital Projectors and white boards for a conducive environment. Internet facility is available 24/7 to act as an alternate academic resource facility for both Lecturers and students.

The Department has facilitated the laying down of a fibre optic backbone in the whole institute. All the Departments and offices have a twin backbone of Telephony and Data line system. The VOIP Technology will be integrated to boost inter-Departmental communication in the near future.

The Department has also contributed in the setting up of a Cyber café with 24 workstations to enable the MTTI community access to internet resources. The internet link has an upload/download speed of 10Mbps.
